The Story Behind The Popecycle

thumb

It’s true, we painted a bike, did a custom head badge and chain guard for Pope Francis. It was a real honour to get the call from Advance Sports International in Philadelphia. Essentially they were teaming up with the Philadelphia Cycling Coalition and the City of Philadelphia to give The Pope a bike and it had to be special. He was coming to Philly at the end of September 2015 for the World of Families Conference and, were they not only giving The Pope a bike, but they were presenting the city of Philadelphia with 100 bikes for organizations and for people in need of wheels.
Amanda Dirkensen from ASI did all the design work for the scheme but then the big challenge came when we had to sort all the different levels of stencils and masks. And then for the head badge they wanted it based on The Popes official coat of arms and provided a drawing of an angle wind for the chain guard inspiration. Essentially 7 colours and a million masks later we think it turn out pretty good. Now all we need is a picture of the Pope riding the bike around the halls of the Vatican.
For final pictures of the bike head over to our gallery.

Unmasking of the Fender Writing and Pin Striping

There was a small dove on the top tube, here is a few details of the unmasking process

Wondering what the press had to say about the whole ordeal, here are a few articles that were quite kind to us, to say the least.

New VéloColour Short feature

Screen Shot 2015-11-27 at 10.43.11 PM

Film maker Justin Pelletier of Stray Matter payed us a visit at the VéloColour shop. We chatted and Justin shot some footage while we did our thing. Putting down some colour, drawing up graphics and some of our other regular daily activities were captured through his focused eyes. The video below is the result of his time spent with us. We hope you enjoy it.

We have moved

It has been a long time coming, business has been great thanks to all of you and I have been outgrowing our small space at Bicycle Specialties for some time. I will keep this short today and will follow up with a post about the move and the fantastic new space shortly.

For now you can look for us at 191 Weston Rd. We’re just a little North St. Clair. It can be a little difficult to find as we are set back from the main street behind a large brick building.

As always we are there 10-6 Monday through Friday and open only by appointment.
