Velocio Cycling Apparel available at Vélocolour in Toronto
Quality, responsibly made cycling apparel, available at VéloColour
So, why Velocio?
We ride our bikes, a lot and the gear we wear while doing it is serious business. Good cycling kit isn’t just about looking good, for us it’s also about quality, all day comfort, durability and details.
Over the years, we’ve made a significant shift in focus, putting our environmental impact at the center of our decision making. Velocio is the apparel company that designs kit specifically for men and women, constructs their items from recycled and natural fibers with a strong focus on how their products are made and have been a longtime supporter of women and BIPOC communities within cycling. It’s everything we want in cycling gear.
Design, Responsibility, and Culture. The belief that there is a better way.
Velocio makes their clothing starting from zero, using their own patterns, their own fabrics and their own look at cycling. Each of Velocio’s pieces aims to solve a problem common to cycling apparel, and they do so authentically, iteratively and artfully.
Velocio is taking responsibility for their role in sustainable sourcing by seeking out the most environmentally responsible suppliers possible. Their manufacturing partner follows EU labor guidelines which oversee conditions of employment, discrimination, equal pay and the protection of pregnant workers.
As a small-batch manufacturer of Canadian-designed, Canadian-made cycling goods, this really hit home for us.
We make all our products in house because it’s important to us that our designs are made with the highest-quality standards by folks who are paid a living wage right here in the GTA. We’re a small team. We work together, we ride together, and we try every day to raise the bar for ourselves and our customers.
Velocio is also a long-time supporter of women and BIPOC groups within the cycling community.
Their Ambassador program highlights voices that aren’t typically heard within the industry, and their Unity Jersey project has raised money for progressive causes aimed at finding a better way to treat people, from organizations like the ACLU, to World Bicycle Relief, to National Alliance on Mental Illness. They have a focus on being inclusive, experiential, and welcoming that is unfortunately still very unique to the cycling industry.
Alongside being a supplier of their awesome kit, we’re also Velocio’s Canadian repair centre.
We offer repairs on all Velocio products right here in our Toronto shop. Reach out to them to get your repair form and then send us the item to repair. Details on their website Repairs Page. You can also get in touch with us directly for any other brand named kit or gear you need fixed or tightened up. Send us some photos, we will let you know what we can do and give you an estimate.
All the pieces we are carrying are made from recycled materials.
Velocio’s recycled & natural fiber collection combines post-consumer recycled content derived fabrics, Tencel, modal, and merino wool – marrying sustainability and technical function. 100% of their 2021/22 jersey line is either made primarily from recycled polyester (using ocean trash that is turned into new yarn in the EU) or natural fibers. The material is super comfortable, and their kit features lots of small, refined details that offer an extremely nice touch. We also love that they offer three to four collections at different price levels for their kit, lowering the barrier to entry without sacrificing quality.
Velocio also offers a huge range of sizes – from XS to XXXXL!
And while we are too small of an operation to fully stock their full range of sizes at all times, we are more than happy to place an order for you if you require a specific size outside the range of what we are currently stocking online – just shoot us an email.
This is part of a bigger trend at VéloColour.
We’ve been working really hard behind the scenes to make new VéloColour products and bring in products by other folks that are being made differently. Real, radical changes to how we make things, what they’re made of, and who’s making them; including our latest rack bag incorporating used sails, tent tops and regenerated nylon.
That’s why we ride and use cycling goods by folks like Bivo (behind the stainless steel bike bottle), and Pedro’s (quality cleaners and lubes that are safe for you, your bike, and the environment), and Velocio! VéloColour may be just a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of the cycling industry, but we are part of a larger movement of businesses, builders, creators and manufacturers doing things differently.
Together, we are working hard to re-imagine the future of cycling.
Plus, it feels really good.
