THe VéloColour Version
A blog about how it’s going down according to us
When we’re not designing, fabricating, sewing or painting, we’ll be updating you on our latest shop happenings, insights into the design and paint processes and whatever else comes to mind.
Some might call it a blog, we call it the VéloColour Version. Whether it’s a behind the scenes look at paint and products, a place to discuss important issues and how they relate to the cycling industry or a chance to highlight like minded businesses doing awesome things, this is the place to go a little deeper.
Bringing a Colnago C59 up to speed
When VéloColour opened it’s doors in 2008 we were known mainly for restoration work, restorations of British, French, Italian steel bikes. Now that carbon bikes have been around for 15+ years we are starting to see more and more restorations of carbon frames. Quite frankly we love this! There is nothing more satisfying then bringing new life to a bicycle that our customers love to ride.

Velocio Cycling Apparel available at Vélocolour in Toronto
So, why Velocio? We ride our bikes, a lot and the gear we wear while doing it is serious business. Good cycling kit isn’t just about looking good, for us it’s also about quality, all day comfort, durability and details. Over the years, we’ve made a significant shift in focus, putting our environmental impact at the center of our decision making. Velocio constructs their items from recycled and natural fibers with a strong focus on how their products are made, they have been a longtime supporter of women and BIPOC communities within cycling.
A one of a kind custom painted bike: An ode to French Terroir
Initially we had no idea if we could do it or how we would do it but the idea was too good to say no to. After lots of experimentation and 300 hours of focus and precision this Parlee Z-Zero is truly like no other.
Routes to Black Creek Drive -Active TO
This Saturday - July 17th - Active TO is coming to Ward 5’s Black Creek Dr. Getting as many people out as possible is the goal because we love seeing bikes filling up the streets. We’re excited to see the roads opening up to bicycles in our neighborhood and we want to help you get there. We put together a handful of routes so you can cycle from all over the city and turn Black Creek into a bicycle party. Check them out below and get in touch if you’ve got any questions.
Metal bottles are making a come back
We’re excited to announce that VéloColour is now an official supplier (and the first in Canada) of Bivo One, the stainless-steel water bottle with a flow-rate designed for cyclists. Metal bottles for cyclists may seem like a new concept, but actually, the Bivo is a throw-back to the very first bidon, made from aluminum with a cork stopper. We think they’re here to stay.
Before the Booth: Getting Started
A behind-the-scenes look at the design process for a bicycle – modern or vintage – that involves a creative approach to the paint scheme. We call these projects “Custom Bikes” to distinguish them from classic restorations, even though the bike in question could be a 1960s steel-frame road bike.
Custom Musettes, Saddlebags and Tool Rolls
Finally, you can get a Vélocolour bag to match your kit.
We’re excited to now offer custom bag packages to clubs and shops anywhere in the world. Three of our most-asked-for bags are available as part of the VC custom program: the Dynamite Roll, the Rocket Pocket, and our Classic Musette.
Who's Hungry: A food security fundraiser for Black Creek Community Farm

Before the Booth: Custom Paint for Champions
When it comes to painting a bicycle for a national champion, or two, the stakes are high. In this case, both Michael VDH, the Elite Cyclocross National Champ and Gunnar Holmgren, the boss of under 19 Canadian Cyclocross came to us with open minds and trust in our skill and process.
